Best & Worst Mom's Day Gifts?

Okay, moms. I'm working on the next issue of the Houston Family Fun newsletter and want to first hear from you. (Subscribe to this FREE, monthly newsletter & get updates on local family activities.)

What is the best Mother's Day gift you've received? The worst? What are some things you wish others knew about Mother's Day but you haven't told them? Do you think your own mother feels the same?

Email me your ideas or add a comment to this blog. Thanks for your tips!

Until the next nap time...

Of course, the wonderful hand-made gifts from my children are the most precious mother's day gifts--the hand prints, the poems, the artwork. However, three years ago a mom here at my workplace passed out a poem to each mother at our company, and it touched my heart. It has faded and has bent corners, but I have kept it and read it every once in awhile. It still makes me misty-eyed, as it reminds me how blessed I am to have my children.

I count this simple poem as one of the best gifts I've ever received. Here it is:

Dear Lord, it's been such a hectic day
With little time to stop and pray,
For life's anything but calm
Since you called me to be a mom.

Running errands, matching socks
Building dreams with wooden blocks,
Cooking, cleaning, finding shoes
And other things that children lose.

Fitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs,
A stack of last week's mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?

Yet, when I steal a moment, Lord,
Just at the sink or ironing board,
To ask the blessings of your grace
I see them in my small one's face,

That you have blessed me all the while
As I stoop to kiss that precious smile.
